In celebrating Valentine’s Day Clarendon Primary School pupils made toys with recycled material for the animals at the East London Zoo yesterday.
Teacher Anneen Schoombee said the senior manager of the zoo and Aquarium Siani Tinley called her and asked if they can do something special for the animals on Valentine’s Day. The school saw this as a great opportunity for the girls to go out and show care to animals.
“I wanted to use recycled material because it showed that you don’t have to spend money to make something that can entertain the animals,” she said.
She said she hopes to make people aware of the good things happening at the zoo as people do not realise the importance of zoo’s. She added that the zoo is a place where people can go to learn.
Schoombee encourages other schools to do something to make a difference at the zoo, she further said other schools can also go to the zoo to expose their learners to the beauty that can be created at the zoo.
