Buffalo City Metro residents are excited about the South African National Rugby team, Springboks, making it to the finals of the Rugby World Cup.
Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture will host a public viewing of the Rugby World Cup final, where the Springboks will go against England Saturday morning at eleven.
DSRAC Spokesperson Andile Nduna said the public viewing will be at Mpongo Location, Tsholomnqa High School in Tsholomnqa, the home of Springboks Wing Makazole Mapimpi.
Mdantsane Resident and a rugby supporter Siyavuya Yekelo said he can’t express the joy he has for the Springboks and he is certain that they will bring the cup home.
“I want to say to the Springboks enjoy yourselves on the field and bring the cup home,” he said.
He added that the public viewing in Tsholomnqa is a very good idea. He said he knows Mapimpi personally as he once played Rugby with him in Mdantsane.
“Mapimpi is a very disciplined player, that’s why he is where he is today, representing the whole of Buffalo City,” said Yekelo.
East London resident Vuyolwethu Sopangisa said Springboks going to the World Cup final came at the right time as the country has been through a lot, he said this will unite the country.
“I want to say to the Springboks it’s not about them being in the field, trying, it’s about the country as a whole. Rugby is a unifier in SA, it makes us confident about being South Africans,” he said.
Further, Sopangisa said the public viewing is a good idea, although it would have been better if there was viewing in every town because the Springboks belong to South Africa as a whole.
