East London beaches were a hive of activities yesterday as hundreds of beach-goers in the province flocked in various beaches to celebrate heritage day.
Some people were wearing their traditional attire while others were dancing and enjoying the sea breeze. However, a number of people failed to observe lockdown protocols like social distancing and wearing of masks.
One of the beachgoers, Nosicelo Zilani from Butterworth told the BCM News team that it was her first time coming to the beach since the outbreak of COVID-19.
“I thank President Ramaphosa for this opportunity, I have been longing for this day to come. My last visit here was in March this year before the outbreak of the Coronavirus in the country,” she said.
She said that this is an opportunity for her to distress as she has lost both her parents due to a Coronavirus related illness.
“I need a break, I need to relax because in May this year I lost my parents after they tested positive for COVID-19”, she said.
