The Eastern Cape Department of Transport, Safety, and Liaison MEC Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe has condemned the taxi violence incidents in Mdantsane.
This is after two taxi owners, a bystander, and the alleged hitman were gunned down yesterday afternoon.
Tiakana-Gxothiwe has urged the Mdantsane community to work closely with the police to bring the perpetrators to book.
“I challenge the police and the community members to work hand in hand together to bring an end to such violence, and to bring the culprits of these senseless shootings to book,” said Tikana-Gxothiwe.
According to Mdantsane police spokesperson Thembinkosi Kinana, an unknown man stormed into Uncedo Service Taxi Association offices on Qumza Highway, opened fire, and killed two people on the spot.
Kinana has urged anyone with information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to come forward. He further said that the motive behind the shooting is unknown and no arrests have been made.
