Buffalo City TVET College students who have completed their National Certificate Vocational (NCV) at the College, applied to continue with their studies at the same college but have not been accepted.
Student from Buffalo City College Anathi Mbeki said, she completed her NCV at BCC in 2018, she alleges that she applied to continue at the same college to study her nated courses and has not been accepted, instead the college accepted and registered 2018s grade 12s and and pupils from other towns.
The Principal of Buffalo City TVET College Mr DR Singh argues that students needs to find or have facts before making such allegations.
“I think it is unfair for students to make those kind of allegations without facts and I would ask those students who have this problem to go back to the relevant structures at campuses and get a response from them” said Singh.
He said the college has rules and regulations when it comes to registration and can not respond without facts and figures.
Attempts to get a comment from a student representative council were fruitless.
In numerous occasions students claim that they approached the relevant structures in the management but arrived to a dead end.
“The reasons for not accepting us and not answering our questions are not clear they claim that, they are busy, there are no lectures, no classes, there’s only one course attending classes and they take only 30 students per class” said Mbeki.
When asked about how the college will accommodate a large number of students after the Eastern Cape matric results percentage increased, Singh said, Buffalo City TVET College has a strategic plan and an operational plan, in the operational plan they have specific numbers and they can only take those numbers.
He said it is unfortunate that the college has a room size building that only accommodates 40 students, they can’t squeeze in a 100 learners, they are only funded according to their operational plan.
“I would encourage students to apply early before the trimesters, semesters and before the year commences if its a year course, because there’s a overwhelming demand for spaces and we have limited resources. We would love to assist each and every student that applies and complies to the requirements to study a programme, but it is so unfortunate that we can only take a limited number of students” said Singh.
