Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality officially opened a one stop traffic services in King Williams Town yesterday.
BCM traffic commander Quinton Chetty said the King Williams Town traffic services was operating in a hall since 1989 where services were divided as they were not in the same place.
“When I was appointed to be commander we decided that we are going to move as the environment was not conducive for the workers and for the community,”̈ he said.
The commander said this will allow the residents to register for licensing, do their learners licence test, eye test, drivers license renewals and pay their traffic fines at one place.
Health Public Safety and Emergency Services portfolio head councillor Amanda Mnyute said she is very happy that they have finally opened the one-stop-shop where everything will be done in one place.
“King Williams Town residents will benefit as they will not rush up and down and luckily we have councillor’s offices at the back of this building so when people need proof of residence they can always go there,” said Mnyute.
Buffalo City Metro Executive Mayor Xola Pakati said this is a state of the art facility that will enable traffic services to function effectively and he is happy that it was finished on time.
“This project was one of the projects that were in the pipeline upon our arrival in 2016 and we took a decision that we should implement all these projects. We also want to ensure that motorists and residents are safe on the road,” he said.
Ndevana resident Fundiswa Teki said she is very happy about the traffic services as they are close and will benefit the youth.
Bongani Xhokoloshe, a King Williams Town resident said the traffic services will help reduce the high rate of road accidents and he hopes that it will bring job opportunities.
