Tactical task force training academy is giving people the opportunity to obtain certificates which are equivalent to a matric certificate, that will enable them to further their studies into tertiary education level.
According to the founder of Tactical Task Force Ian Milne, the security company was established 17 years ago. It started off as a specialized security company and later saw the need to have properly trained staff which brought about the opening of the academy.
Speaking to BCM News Tactical Task Force Training Manager Susan Coetzee said the company focuses on three different entry levels into the company which is the Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA) accredited certificates, National Certificate in specialised security services and basic general security services.
Coetzee explained that if one has a grade 10 certificate and does the first entry level into the security practices, the certificates they receive are equivalent to a matric certificate. She added that the academy does not provide theory work but also practicals.
“After you finish your one year with us and you decide that security is not what you really want and you to go into another direction, the credits that you have accumulated on the NQF can be used to go to a Technicon or college to further your studies,” she said.
According to Coetzee the academy enrolls 15 to 20 students and the available courses are First aid, Fire Fighting, Armed Response, CIT, Fire Competency and Psira Registration.
“We like to keep our classes small because we believe in one on one training.”
The academy provides Psira grades which are from grade E to A, where the students attend classes for a week. Coetzee said that when the student completes the course they can register with Psira.
“If you have the psira grades certificate and decide you don’t want to be security, that certificate can only qualifies in the security environment but if you sasseta accredited certificates that will open doors for you,” she said.
The academy provides a three year course and education comes with a price. When asked about the fees Coetzee said that the first year course cost R25 000, second year is R32 000 which includes all the necessary stationery that the students will need.
She added that the academy is registered with a financial institution called Fundi which helps students pay for their studies.
“The Fundi financial institution gave one of our students a loan to pay the full amount of the course. This aid is open to those who don’t have money to pay for their study fees,” she said.
