The IEC Provincial Electoral Officer Khayakazi Magudumana said the first day of special votes went well in the Eastern Cape.
Challenges they faced were community protests in some of the voting stations where IEC staff were threatened by community members trying to stop them from opening voting stations, and heavy rains.
Magudumana said they are monitoring the weather very closely and are planning to give out material that will help in muddy roads. She added that they are hoping the weather will improve as there is a challenge of heavy rains in the OR Tambo and Alfred Ndzo region.
Buffalo City Metro recorded the highest number of home visit applications in the province with 9665 voters.
She added that IEC is very grateful to all the relevant stakeholders, the SAPS in particular, as they have assisted in containing community protests and road blocks.
She appeals to all special voters who did not vote yesterday to come today before five o’clock.
