Rumours making rounds on social media platforms that the early December payments for the South African Social Security beneficiaries are bonuses have been dismissed by the SASSA Spokesperson Luzuko Qina.
SASSA will pay it’s beneficiaries early for December, on November 28, 2019, to prepare for the festive season. This applies to beneficiaries who collect their money from the Post Office, ATMs, banks and supermarkets.
According to Qina, if a beneficiary collects the December payment between November 28, 2019, and the end of December 2019, the next payment will be for the month of January 2019.
Qina added that this is to avoid the long queues and old people being robbed during busy times.
“We want them to quickly buy their Christmas groceries and gifts. We are doing this to ensure that they don’t find themselves in long queues and we also don’t want old and disabled people to be victims of crimes during this busy time,” she said.
Qina warned SASSA beneficiaries to not give strangers their PIN numbers and ID’s even if they tell them that they are from the SASSA offices.
“The majority of these scams are circulated via WhatsApp, SMS and social media. Beneficiaries are advised to call the SASSA toll free line on 0800 60 10 11 or 043 7076335 if they doubt something or want to report anything,” said Qina.
