Bridging the gap between the youth and young adults, the Good Deeds Youth Development in partnership with Bumb’ingomso and Harambee intends to accommodate people from the age of 36 to 45 to assist them with getting employment.
According to the Good Deeds Youth Development Chairperson Itumeleng Basela, the Non-Profit Organisation was established in 2016 and was officially registered in 2019 to assist the youth and young adults with getting jobs, education and mainly entrepreneurial skills.
“Although our organization’s focus is on the youth, we also accommodate young adults that are above the age of 35, because we noticed that they are not compatible to work in many industries as they are regarded as old,” she said.
In-addition, Basela said the youth receives more support in terms of education and businesses than the people who are above the given age limit. She said they want to impart entrepreneurial skills to these young adults.
“They are young adults who need intervention from any angle which will assist them with getting skills,” she said.
One of the unemployed young adults Nontombi Qweniso, 37, said she last worked in 2016 after her contract expired where she was employed and since then she has been applying without any good fortune.
“I have fear now that I am above the age of 35 because this will make it difficult for me to get a job or partake in any employment programmes,” said Qweniso.
The Office Coordinator from Harambee and Bumb’ngomso Nokuzola Mfenyana said to assist young adults, they have a programme called SmartStart which is an Early Childhood Development programme.
“This programme assists people who are above the age of 35, to help them start their own After Care businesses by assisting school children with their homework. This will help reduce the high rate of unemployment,” said Mfenyana.
