Dimbaza residents are complaining about the Dimbaza Community Healthcare Centre’s hygiene as the COVID-19 pandemic requires cleanliness.
A community member who wanted to remain anonymous said the clinic is dirty, the toilets are covered in blood, floors are flooded with water and some are not working.
She added that some nurses attend patients reeking of alcohol.
“There’s a nurse who is always seen at a tavern, then he goes back to work to attend to patients,” said Anonymous.
In addition, the community member said they have written a letter with a list of grievances but due to the national lockdown they were unable to submit the letter.
Another resident who does not want to be mentioned by name said the clinic’s services are very poor.
“A person once had an epileptic seizure at the clinic, instead of calling a nurse to assist the person, they called a security guard as there were no nurses on duty,” she said.
When asked by BCM News how is the state of the clinic during the national lockdown, Anonymous said it is worse than before.
“During this national lockdown it is worse because there is no one to clean the clinic, especially the toilets,” she said.
The Eastern Cape Department of Health Spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said hygiene is amongst the department’s top priorities and they will send officials to follow up on the complaints made by the residents.
