Funda Nathi is an Early Childhood Development initiative which creates cutting edge learning material in all 11 official South African languages with emphasis on the mother tongue language.
According to Lonwabo Jobodwana owner of Kuhle Apha Design Studio and Art practitioner/teacher from Phakamisa Township in King William’s Town, with the announcement of Lockdown and online schooling, Funda Nathi Lockdown set was created.
She said the set can be bought or donated to those who don’t have access to printers or online platforms for learning.
“Our aim is delivering these to as many rural and township preschools as possible. Promoting African languages and culture,” she said.
The kits have three A4 laminated posters, Wax Crayons, blank paper, and colouring book with activities and nursery rhymes.
In-addition Jobodwana said R5000 has been donated and about 22 households have benefited.
“Any parent who is interested in teaching their child an African language at home can buy the packs and have an option to donate to a childless fortunate,” she said.
Packs are couriered or collected by one individual who can distribute in their area.
The kits are able to assist households with young children as they have been neglected during this time while the focus is on matriculants and higher education.
“The packs encourage kids to stay home and be safe and further carry on educating themselves,” said Jobodwana.
