The Zabalaza Youth Development Forum started a vegetable garden in response to the possible hike in food prices after the National lockdown.
According to the Founder of ZYDF Masixole Peter, the gardening project will help sustain the community and schools.
“When the National lockdown is over, food will be expensive and there will be a shortage of food,” said Peter.
He added that the land is currently sowed and it will take the crops at least six weeks to grow.
“We are busy planting the crops with the hope that they are going to be enough for what we have planned to do,” said Peter.
When asked about the pricing, Secretary of ZYDF Zwelethu Mandyungu said they are yet to discuss the prices.
In-addition, Peter said growing local vegetables will allow the youth of Zabalaza to make their own income which will assist them at home.
“We will sell the vegetables to the community and the money we make will be used to assist us in our homes,” said Peter
