Subsequent to two people testing positive for COVID-19, Mayibuye Transport Corporation closed it’s Zwelitsha Depot.
Eastern Cape Department of Transport Spokesperson Unathi Binqose said MTC quickly decontaminated the depot on May 30.
“The MEC commands the company for the steps it took to ensure the safety of its employees,” he said.
In addition, Binqose said the Department of Transport called on commuters in the community to understand the measures taken and the services will resume soon.
“Commuters that have been inconvenienced by this temporal suspension of services to understand that, the decision has been taken in their best interest and that services will soon resume as soon as the necessary measures have been taken,” he said
One of the commuters from Mdantsane Anele Velem from said the suspension has inconvenienced him tremendously as he depends on the buses to go work to avoid expensive taxis.
“I understand that the company had to make a drastic decision to avoid any further infections,” said Velem.
The two employees will only be permitted to return to work once they are cleared of COVID-19.
