To create awareness about the violence that occurs after young men (Amakrwala) return from initiation school, a movie titled ‘Isidoda, Ubudoda, Indoda’ shot at Eluxolweni in East London premieres in August 2020.
According to Scriptwriter Bulelani Momoti, the movie was inspired by a series of true-life events which took place in 2002 when his cousin almost lost his life when he got stabbed by Ikrwala demanding a bottle of brandy.
“My uncle intervened and ended up in hospital after being stabbed by a gang of Amakrwala. My older cousin tried to intervene where he got attacked and ended up shooting one of them which led him to lose his job and got a criminal record,” he said.
A trailer of the movie has been released and the public is shaken by it. Momoti said people fear that the sacred tradition might be exposed and some fear that their ways of bullying and extorting alcohol will be exposed.
In addition Siyamamkela Wanga from East London who plays Ntsika the leading role said, the journey has been really difficult and full of surprises.
“Ntsika believes that alcohol has no contribution in building a decent and dignified and committed to standing and protecting the culture of AmaXhosa and Ukwaluka that is nowadays taken very lightly and as a joke,” said Wanga.
Head of Communication and Marketing at Kumkani Pictures Sithembile Xaso said the movie will premiere on Montywood.
