The financial situation of some local guesthouses is dire as accommodation is about to reopen.

According to the owner Nola Peace Bed and Break in Amalinda, East London, Pamella Jita, the lockdown has had a huge negative impact on her business as she has lost a lot of income and employees.

“I have Iost a lot of income as bookings were cancelled, my employees lost their jobs, bouncing of debit orders and cancellation of vehicle insurance,” she said.

With accommodation allowed to operate, Jita has had to look for new employees as the one’s she had before might have gone and looked for jobs elsewhere.

She added that she has to remarket the guest house for clients to start booking accommodation.

“No bookings so far, no PPE as I have no income at all. No reserves and finances are extremely bad,” said Jita.

In-addition Jita expounded that she would appreciate it if the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality Tourism would assist her guesthouse with PPEs.

Buffalo City Metro News was unable to get a comment from BCMM Spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya.
