Mercedes Benz South Africa has joined other business sectors in assisting the Eastern Cape government to fight the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the province.
MBSA has donated much needed personal protective equipment and four luxurious vehicles to be used to fight against the spread of Covid-19 in the Province.
Last week, the Eastern Cape government announced that the number of Covid-19 infected people is expected to grow more than double in the months to come as the storm is not yet over.
Speaking to the media yesterday, Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane has applauded MBSA for rolling up their sleeves to join the war against COVID-19.
“We appreciate this helping hand because as a government we can not fight this pandemic alone. For 70 years MBSA has called SA and particularly the Eastern Cape home and we are hopeful that our partnership will continue for 70 more years, long after most of us have gone,” said Mabuyane.
He further said that as the number of health-care workers infected by the coronavirus continues to grow, the personal protective equipment donated by MBSA will be dispatched in various hospitals in the province to protect the health care workers from COVID-19.
“The donation of 3D printed face shields, surgical masks and hand sanitisers by MBSA will help us to prevent more infections from our health care workers. More than 5000 health care workers tested positive for the virus and this requires us to prioritise their well-being. If we do not do that there will be a disaster in our hospitals with no health care workers to take care of the sick,” said Mabuyane.
The premier told the media that the four vehicles donated by MBSA will be used by government officials to do their fieldwork on COVID-19.
