The owner of Itita Creations Pty Ltd Sisanda Cutu, 32, from Dimbaza, turned her hobby of making traditional jewellery into a business.
According to Cutu, the company was established in 2014 after she discovered that people love her jewellery and wanted to purchase it.
“I used to produce neckpieces for myself as a hobby. I noticed that people love my work and wanted to know where I bought my jewellery. I would tell them that I made them myself. They would even take the ones that I am wearing,” she said.
To showcase her craft, Cutu attended exhibitions in East London.
“A lady from Amathole Craft Hub recommended that I apply to participate in the National Arts Festival but I could not partake in the festival as my business was not yet registered,” she said.
In-addition Cutu said, she later registered her company as that would give her the opportunity to participate in local and national exhibitions.
Cutu expressed that she does not have sponsors and depends on arts festivals and exhibitions to sell their products.
“This year we could not attend any exhibitions due to Covid-19 outbreak,” said Cutu.
