The Buffalo City Metropolitan Covid-19 cases have increased as the second wave looms.
According to the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality Spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya, the Buffalo City Command Centre confirmed that there are new positive cases and people are in self-isolation.
“Whilst progress has been made in fighting the virus, the Command Centre cautions people of the possibility of a second wave as we are not out of the woods yet,” said Ngwenya
In-addition Ngwenya said Bhisho Hospital has three COVID-19 patients. The total number of confirmed cases to date is 22 237, with 20 810 recoveries.
“The municipality is still on alert level one, and the casual behaviour of residents in responding to the virus is worrying,” he said.
Ngwenya said Bhisho Hospital currently has 37 beds available for isolation and a hospital illustrating an increase in the number of deaths in the metro is Cecilia Makiwane Hospital with 311 and Frere Hospital with 308.
He said inspections at food premises, early childhood centres, old age homes or nursing centres, accommodation establishments, university residences and schools/learning centres were conducted to identify which areas are at high risk.
“Random inspections/patrols will also be conducted by officials on the day to enforce adherence to Covid-19 health & safety protocols,” said Ngwenya.
