Perky Hair and Beauty salon is a kids’ only salon that offers a world-class experience to children aged 2-14 years old, boasting expert hairstylists and different entertainment facilities to suit its clientele.
With no haircare experience of their own, Zanda Booi and Phaphama Molefe were inspired by their own experiences with their children to open the salon which has given a new meaning to the dreaded salon visit.
“We came up with the idea from dealing with tantrums from our little ones whenever they were due for a salon visit, we constantly had to come up with ways to distract them for the duration of the treatment and Phaphama always said that she would one day open a hair salon that kids would enjoy going to, I didn’t know that she was serious about it until she said it was time to set the idea in motion,” said Booi.
Molefe and Booi hope to turn the place into the most sought after salon in town which can be known for being the best in the business and giving their clients value for money.
To achieve this, they make sure to hold weekly brainstorming sessions with their staff members to evaluate how they could constantly improve from their past week’s experiences.
“At these meetings, we focus on identifying areas of improvement and come up with ways to refine our softer skills. It is our business to make kids comfortable and we pull out all the stops to ensure that we have a happy face when it is all over,” said Molefe.
Although they do not have any hairstyling experience, from a young age, Booi would braid her hair.
“Zanda always braided her hair and loved styling all our hair at home, I preferred her doing my hair over anybody because she is such a perfectionist, I always knew that when it came to braids and twists, a clean finish was guaranteed,” reminisced Molefe.
At the moment the salon specialises in African hair and uses haircare products that have been tried and tested for use in delicate hair and scalp and are in pursuits of sourcing hairstylists who have expertise in other hair types. They welcome pre-booked appointments and walk-ins.
