After numerous failed attempts at finding employment, Onele Manyifolo, 23, from Bhisho decided to open a business, Beads.by.Onele in the comfort of her home.
The Walter Sisulu University Bachelor of Social Science graduate said she established her business in May 2021 after attending beading classes in Zwelitsha.
“After being unable to find a job I decided to do something. That is when I saw a post on Facebook of a lady offering beading lessons I joined and started beading,” she said.
In addition, Manyifolo said Beads.by.Onele is not only for your typical traditional wear. What separates her bead designs from others is that she has modernised her pieces into fashionable wear.
She said her prices range from R400- R1500 depending on the piece.
“Beads.by.Onele does not only focus on making traditional beaded pieces but I try to modernize beadwork by making pieces that go together with how we dress today, for instance, I make beaded heels, beaded bucket hats and beaded purses,” she said.
Talking about the challenges her business is facing she said she would like to get her own working space as she is working from home, especially with her growing clientele.
“I would love to get my own space to work in so that my customers can reach me,” said Manyifolo.
