The ANC in the Eastern Cape has condemned the malicious attack on Amathole District Municipality Mayoral Committee Councillor Nanziwe Rulashe at the ADM offices in East London yesterday.

According to the video circulating on social media platforms, Councillor Rulashe was in one of the municipal offices when security officials dragged her out of the office in full view of the ADM staff. The security officers were claiming that they were instructed by the municipal manager to remove her from the municipality offices.

ANC Provincial Secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi said that the worst part of the video is the woman who was leading the security guards.

“The most disgusting part in that video is the charge led by a woman wearing a white dress claiming to be the head of security, someone who should know how acts of gender-based violence and femicide have led to the killing of women in our country,” said Ngcukayitobi.

He further said that as the ANC they are not going to allow this kind of violence and behaviour to happen in the province.

“This kind of behaviour is unacceptable, seeing a public representative being dragged out of the office by security officials on the alleged instructions from a Municipal Manager and HOD can never be tolerated. We call for decisive action against all those involved in this abhorrent display of gender-based violence and be brought to book,” he said.

COGTA Department has weighed in on the saga. COGTA MEC Xolile Nqatha lambasted the malicious attack on Councillor Nanziwe Rulashe. He demanded answers.

“The department is utterly disgusted by this incident. I have since written to the leadership of the municipality, requesting them to provide him with a report indicating steps that they are going to ensure that all those involved are held accountable,” said Nqatha.
