As the country approaches the National Elections, the Independent Electoral Commission Spokesperson Kate Bapela said IEC is ready for the 2019 elections.
Speaking to BCM News Bapela said nationally the electoral commission is ready in all aspects of elections logistics.
“We are ready in terms of electoral logistics, that means the recruitment of staff, ensuring that voting material is available in all voting stations and ensuring that our staff is well trained in registering voters as well as accreditation for domestic and international observers,” she said.
According to Bapela the Eastern Cape has 26 political parties contesting and on Wednesday, March 27, an electoral Code of Conduct was signed.
“I am quite happy about the level of engagement that we have in the Eastern Cape. In terms of the number of people registered to vote, Gauteng, KZN and the Eastern Cape take the top three spots,” she said.
To publish information about the elections Bapela conveyed that they will utilise mass media.
“To make sure that people know about the elections we will have adverts on TV, all community radio stations and newspapers,” she said.
One of the people who will be voting on the eighth of May, Ezile Gcingca said she is ready to vote and hopes for peaceful and fair elections.
