Charitable eleven year old Mdantsane local hero, Amahle Qomfo donated a school uniform to a needy boy child at Nkangeleko Primary School, in Dice location today.
The young hero spotted the needy child while he was on his way to school and realized that he needed a school uniform. Using her pocket money with assistance from her mother, they were able to buy a shirt, trousers, vest, socks, jersey and shoes for him.
“I do charity work, I support Angels Orphanage Home and children living with Congenital Heart Defects,” said Qomfo.
In working with Angels Orphanage Home, Qomfo noticed that there were not enough beds for the children who live there. She then wrote a letter to government departments and private owned companies asking for beds, school supplies, blankets and food. Her letter received a positive response when Sundale Dairy pledged to support the home with dairy products.
She saw that there are people who live near the court, she collected clothes from her family, her mother asked from shop owners for clothes they can’t sell and donated them to those people.
Her mother Zukelwa Qomfo said her daughter supports children living with Congenital Heart Defects and since it is national heart day on September 27 they are planning to host a Miss CHD competition to do a fundraising for the children.
“We saw that some parents can not afford to take their children to Cape Town for their operations, the money raised in the competition will be utilized for the travelling costs for heart warriors that are less fortunate,” she said.
She said in one of the Congenital Heart Defects projects there is a project called ‘Brush to Live’ which promotes brushing teeth twice a day so Amahle is also promoting children’s oral health and she collects toothbrushes and toothpastes.
“We have to collect toothbrushes to distribute during Congenital Heart Defect awareness weeks,” she said.
Qomfo was convinced by her mother to start modeling at the age of 7 and has been modeling for Just Models since 2014. She entered Little Miss SA in Johannesburg, Pageant SA and Miss Elite SA and won public choice.
She was also crowned Miss Hemingways Primary Schools Heritage where she won R2 000 and spent the money on school shirts and socks for children at Angels Orphanage Home.
Her mother said she is very proud of her but makes sure that her school work takes priority.
Amahle said the competitions she entered taught her that she must not give up and try harder the next time.
