The city wrapped up tourism month by officially opening Kiwane Beach Resort in Tsholomnqa yesterday.
According to the Executive Mayor of the Buffalo City Metro Xola Pakati, the city established this facility for two reasons which are rural tourism and rural economy.
“As you can see this is a state-of-the-art facility which is meant to boost the economic spin-off in the area but also, we want to link the question of the rural economic approach,” said Pakati.
Telling us more about the Kiwane Beach Resort, The Head of the Department of Economic Development, Noludwe Ncokazi said the resort has a seven-single story, five double story chalets and two backpackers which accommodate more than 50 people.
“Our chalets are different, there are chalets that can accommodate families with two rooms and ones that can accommodate singles,” said Ncokazi.
She added that what makes this resort exclusive from others is due to its different facilities that have different activities both for adults and children.
“We have boat cruises, canoeing and quad biking which makes it a true tourist attraction adventure. It faces both the river and the sea respectively and people can come for river cruising, fishing or just go to the beach.”
Speaking on community development, Ncokazi explained that the community of Tsholomnqa has been involved in the Kiwane project since its commencement and was also involved during the construction phase.
“Activities that take place in this resort will be done by the community. They will be trained for diving so there are homegrown lifeguards, they will be trained on how to drive quad bikes and on tourism. This will develop the locals,” said Ncokazi.
Ward 32 councilor Vuyani Peter expressed relief as the project was completed in time for the holiday season, he also added that his ward will reap the benefits from Kiwane Beach Resort and urged locals to look after the development as it is made for them.
“With the kind of challenges we face, this project will alleviate poverty and bring employment to the people of Tsholomnqa, further, we urge residents to look after this establishment as it will help with their livelihoods,” said Peter.
A resident, Ntombekhaya Sabani said they are delighted with what is happening in their village as it will bring about job opportunities and rural development.
