The Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture launched the Oliver Reginald Tambo month at the East London International Convention Centre yesterday.
According to DSRAC MEC Fezeka Bayeni, the late O.R Tambo was an enthusiastic sports person having participated in football, tennis, and cricket during his time. She added that he was also very active in Choral music as he conducted choirs.
“In this month of Oliver Reginald Kaizana Tambo, we, therefore, extending ourselves in celebrating the life and times of our political heritage through this great giant who hailed from Nkantolo, Mbizana,” said Bayeni.
Speaking at the ELICC Bayeni announced all the activities that will take place to celebrate O.R Tambo, DSRAC in partnership with KM Sports Promotions will on the 26th of October, stage the fourth annual International Bodybuilding Championships, the third annual Mzila ka Tambo 42 km marathon and the O.R Tambo Provincial Choral Music at Mbizana.
She said through this marathon they have seen long-distance runners from Lesotho, KZN, and Gauteng.
“In this marathon, we pride ourselves to prize both male and female runners equally as the winners will get R25 000.00,” said Bayeni.
The Founder of KM Sports Promotions Khayalethu Majeke said during the International Bodybuilding Championships prize giving, respecting the issue of gender equity, both male and female bodybuilders will be paid the same amount.
