To celebrate the country’s victory, the World Rugby Champions, Springboks, will parade their cup in East London on Saturday from the City Hall to Mdantsane.
This is after the Springboks won the world cup against England with a score of 32-12. This game saw Springboks Wing from Tsholomnqa Makazole Mapimpi make history with the first-ever Springboks try in a world cup final.
The tour bus will depart from the East London City Hall at 10 am in the morning, travel down Oxford Street towards Mdantsane through the Access Road, travel along Spine Road then turn left to the Jiba road going out of Mdantsane.
Buffalo City Metro Spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya said this is good for local tourism of the city and they are expecting people from other cities of the province to come in numbers.
“We are one of the chosen cities for the tour, that says a lot about our traditional rugby history,” he said.
Ngwenya added that this tour serves as a thank you to the fans for their faith and support they have put into the Springboks. “We call on our people to come in numbers to support the boys.”
East London Resident Mkhanyisi Fundakubi said he is very proud of the Springboks and is happy that finally, he will get to see them as they were always far from him.
“I usually see the Springboks on the television and newspapers, now I will get to see them face to face. I am excited,” said Fundakubi.
Masonwabe Magumbi from Southernwood said he is happy that the Springboks have won the world cup.
“They made us proud and I will go and see them as they parade the Webb Ellis cup,” he said.
