Young philanthropist, model, and local Hero Amahle Qomfo will head to New York next year in July to represent South Africa after she auditioned in Johannesburg for the International Model and Talent Association (IMTA).

Mdantsane-born Qomfo is signed under an agency called 33 and Me Model and Talent Management Agency which affords young South Africans an opportunity to go abroad. The agency works together with IMTA.

“After I auditioned I was called back and told I will attend the International Model and Talent Association Convention in New York,” said Amahle.

Speaking to BCM News 12-year-old Amahle added that at the convention they will be scouting for record labels and scholarships to study at the New York Film Academy.

The grade six Gonubie Christian School pupil who recently won Daily Dispatch and Johnson & Johnson Local Hero Award said she does community work, she supports Angels Orphanage Home and children living with Congenital Heart Defects. She was nominated for local heroes by someone who saw her work.

“I think I won because of the uniqueness of my work and the impact it had on the receiving end,” she said.

Further Qomfo said that with the money she won at the Local Heroes Awards, she will take giving to a higher level, especially when it comes to needy school children.

Grateful Amahle said she is happy she won because it means she has an opportunity to help others.

“I don’t do this to be praised but it feels absolutely amazing to be recognized for your work.”
