Eastern Cape Department of Health Spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo confirmed that a medical doctor had tested positive at Nontyatyambo CHC.

He added that as precaution nurses who were on his shift were put on quarantine and the clinic was decontaminated

“All positive staff members are in self-isolation and all contacts have been traced and tested and are self-quarantine,” he said.

According to Kupelo, the Buffalo City Metro Health District COVID-19 positive staff classes are as follows;
One Medical Doctor at Nontyatyambo CHC, two Professional Nurses in Duncan Village CHC and Dimbaza CHC, one General Assistant in Duncan Village CHC and one Community Health Worker in NU16 clinic.

One of the residents from Mdantsane who wanted to remain anonymous said, they are scared of the virus especially now that it has reached townships.

“The virus could spread because we do not know whether everyone has been traced and the virus can be asymptomatic and the people who were traced might be carrying and are unaware of that,” he said.
