Thousands of impoverished Eastern Cape residents are set to benefit from the arrival of special health train Phelophepha in the province. The train has state of the art medical facilities and skilled medical personnel.
To make sure that all citizens are tested and screened, the health train will move through rural areas conducting mass screening and testing.
Eastern Cape Health MEC spokesperson Judy Ngoloyi said with Transnet on board assisting the department with testing and screening, this initiation is much appreciated.
She added that the train will be in the province for two months.
“The train will be here in the province from now up until July, targeting Amathole district and the Buffalo City Metro areas,” said Ngoloyi.
Transnet’s Phelophepha train manager Bheki Mendlula urged the people to come and get tested for COVID-19.
“We want as many people as possible to come to the train and we will make sure they get screened and tested for COVID-19,” said Mendlula.
The Phelophepha health train will be stationed in Stutterheim, Mount Ruth, Butterworth, Idutywa and the last leg will be at OR Tambo District Municipality between the month of May and July.
