Amatola Water Board said a number of areas in the Buffalo City Metro will experience water shortages due to vandalism.
The board announced that one of its water sub-stations, Laing Water Supply in Phakamisa near King William’s Town has been vandalised.
The station is serving among other areas Bhisho, Zwelitsha, King William’s Town and Berlin.
Water Board Communications manager, Nosisa Sogayise said the areas that are normally supplied by Laing Water Treatment Works will now experience insufficient water supply.
“We request communities to work for hand in glove with the government to protect infrastructure as vandalism disadvantaged communities at the end of the day,” said Sogayise.
Sogayise further said due to the vandalised Phakamisa sub-station, Amatola Water has had to switch to Pembroke power supply to provide water to the affected areas.
“However voltage is very low to run the whole works at Pembroke sub-station,” Sogayise added.
