Dozens of needy families in the Buffalo City area have received food parcels from COGTA MEC Xolile Nqatha in Bhisho yesterday.
The families are from ward 25, 41, 43, and 44 which are part of Nqatha’s constituency.
However, Nqatha could not be present when the food parcels were handed over to the beneficiaries due to his busy schedule yesterday.
He then assigned his technical adviser Vuyani Limba to represent him. Speaking during the handover ceremony, Limba said the government wants to ensure that no families go to bed on an empty stomach.
“As a government, we want to make sure that no one is dying of hunger during this period and this is part of the government’s programs to alleviate poverty in the province,” said Limba.
Ward 43 councillor Zukiswa Mankayi said they have identified unemployed families who are not benefiting from any government grants.
“These families have not benefited in any government grants and they are unemployed so they qualify to get this grocery today,” said Mankayi.
A beneficiary who wanted to speak on condition of anonymity thanked the government for giving them food parcels.
“I am unemployed and do not qualify for social grants so the grocery will sustain me while I am looking for jobs,” she said.
