The youth of Dimbaza near King William’s Town risked their lives when they voluntarily sanitized and helped maintain social distancing residents in shopping centres.
One of the project’s members Andisiwe Fanteso said they started a project of sanitizing and monitoring social distancing at the Dimbaza ATM’s.
She said the reason behind this initiative is to limit the spread of Coronavirus in the community.
“We know that during pay dates shopping centres become overcrowded, particularly the ATMs. They forget about the virus and don’t practice social distancing. So we decided to avail ourselves and assist them,” said Fanteso.
In terms of spreading the word, Fanteso said they informed residents about their project through the Dimbaza news page on Facebook.
“Some first complain before accepting our assistance but most of them cooperate,” said Fanteso.
According to Fanteso they are not well equipped and trained. “What we want is training in order for us to know the dos and dont’s. We know what we are doing but we don’t have much knowledge so we don’t want to find ourselves infected,” she said.
She kindly pleads with the residents to donate what they can to assist them throughout the day.
“We would appreciate it if people would donate to project what they can. Be it food or anything that we can eat for lunch because we spend the whole day at shopping centres. We are also in need of protective gear,” said Fanteso.
The operating hours for the team are 06:00 am to 18:00.
