Starting his own business was Mandilakhe Matuwana’s dream who now owns a grass cutting company called Mario’s Grass Cutting Service (Pty) Ltd.
According to Matuwana, as a child, his dream was to become a businessman and in 2019 he turned that dream into a reality.
“I bought myself a brushcutter machine and worked during weekends while off from work to make extra cash,” he said.
Matuwana said he saw that there was a need for his services in many households and that’s when he saw an opportunity to grow a business in grass cutting.
“This was to also to improve my life and that of the people of the community,” said Matuwana.
The determined businessman saw clinics and schools needed help, especially now in level 3 where children and teachers are about to reopen schools.
“For now, because I don’t have transportation I only operate in Beacon Bay most of the time and Abbotsford,” said Matunwana.
In addition, Matuwana said his ultimate goal is to work with the municipality, sports fields, Eskom, and many others. He added that he would like his company to operate the whole BCM.
During Lockdown level 5 and 4, Matuwana said they could not operate and there was no money coming in and employees needed to get paid as this is their main source of income to provide for their families. It strained the business financially.
“Customers have been calling non-stop, asking for our services. We are on high demand as it has been a full two months without having their grass being cut,” he said.
Matuwana explained the pressure of not having a vehicle or transport to move around and some customers do not have patience, it is a challenge.
“We are in demand but we struggle to get around because we don’t have transport,” he said.
