University of Fort Hare Student Representative Council disputed the reopening of only Alice campus saying it maintains its stance to say no student should be left behind.
According to the SRC President Sipiwo Ngcenge, the SRC travelled to East London and Bisho campus to conduct a walkabout and check the state of readiness for both campuses to welcome students when permits are issued.
“The conditions of the campuses are not pleasing especially the in East London campus,” said Ngcenge.
He added that If students are to return, they are resolute that all those that form part of the first 33% cohort should return to the respective campuses.
The SRC said permits will be issued to the first 33% cohort by this week so that students can come back next week.
“The institution has delayed the return of students for a very long time. The SRC proposed that the permits are sent in two forms, by email and SMS to students who form part of the first 33% cohort and it was agreed upon.’’
According to the SRC for all affected N+2 students an email has been prepared for them to send their appeals through.
“We as the SRC urge all affected students to please send their appeals before the closing date which is the 9th of July 2020.”
The SRC said all students that need their academic records and confirmation letter can email lbeja@ufh.ac.za for all three campuses Alice, Bisho and East London campuses.
“For Graduation Certificates as soon as staff is back on campus on the 9th the process will start for them to be printed. The matter of students affected with marks that are delayed at exams, both Academic officers are looking at it in consultation with the affected faculties and as soon as they have feedback they will update the affected students.”
