Ever since matrics returned to school they have been working under a lot of pressure.
According to Siphelele Mahlaza who attends Richard Varha High School, they have to cover a lot of work in just a short period of time and there has been a low rate of attendance.
“Ever since we re-opened school there has not been a 100% record of pupils attending school per day, one of the reasons is fear and anxiety,” said Mahlaza.
Talking about what they have studied ever since schools reopened Siyasanga Cutu from Kuyasa High School said they have only covered four subjects instead of seven.
“We haven’t learned enough because ever since school reopened we have been learning only four subjects which are English, Xhosa, Geography and Tourism,” said Cutu.
She added that she does not see the use of pupils continuing if they are learning only four subjects instead of seven.
With the mounting calls to close schools, Cutu expressed that the closure of schools will affect her as it is for their own safety.
“It will affect me because it is for our safety. I can still continue with my studies next year if possible,” said Cutu.
