To reduce accidents and ensure that motorists are cautious Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality installed new night-vision cameras.
The cameras are installed along North East Expressway (NEX) in East London
According to BCMM Spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya, the cameras are synchronised and can detect speeding vehicles or a vehicle crossing an imaginary line from 30 metres away.
“They are part of the road upgrades along with the NEX and this means that they were installed at no extra cost to the Municipality,” said Ngwenya.
Ngwenya conveyed that the newly installed Artemis cameras which utilise the monitor are one of three sets that are being installed across the city.
“The city is employing a number of preventative methods to curb speeding including erections of speed humps, traffic, circles and speed cameras,” he said.
