Notshokwakhe Agnes Zamela, 64, from Dimbaza near King William’s Town was denied justice when her car accident case was dismissed for no reason at the Dimbaza police station.
According to Zamela, the accident occurred on March 8th 2019. She was standing on the pavement when the car appeared out of nowhere and hit her in the back paralysing her waist down.
“We were standing on the pavement near St John’s church in Dimbaza when a car appeared behind and hit me on my back and waist. I woke up at the Dimbaza clinic, then was later sent to Grey hospital,” she said.
Zamele expressed that when she woke up, the doctor told her that her waist was damaged and she now uses a walking stick.
“I use a walking stick to assist me with walking because I struggle to stand on my own for hours,” she said.
In- addition, Zamela reported the case at the Dimbaza police station but after the accident, she was in a lot of pain and could not give out information
“I reported the case at the Dimbaza police station. The policemen came to the clinic to check on me and make a statement but I was in pain and couldn’t speak so they took my name and left,” she said.
The 64-year-old said she went to the police station numerous times while still injured to check on the progress of her case and was later told that the case had been closed.
“Then they came this one time to inform me that the case has been closed by the head prosecutor from Zwelitsha. I then told them that I was not happy with the decision they took. How could they close the case without me even going to court with the person who wronged me?” said Zamela.
She added that when she told the police that she was unhappy with the decision, they said they will take the case to the head prosecutor to talk to her but they never did.
According to Zamlela’s daughter Yoliswa Zamela, the accident affected her emotionally as she had quit her job to take care of her mother as she could not go to the toilet or bath herself.
“Seeing my mother sitting in bed all day unable to do anything affected me badly because my mother is someone who likes doing things on her own, ” she said.
When BCM News contacted the police and they said, they cannot disclose any information as it is sensitive. Nevertheless, advised Zamela to visit the police station to find out what happened to her case.
