Dimbaza residents submitted a petition of no bail for Amanda Schalk Magwebu’s killer at the Dimbaza police station today.
The mother of four was shot dead by her husband in front of her children on Wednesday at 8 pm and handed himself over to the police.
According to a member of Dimabaza Victim Empowerment Centre Zanele Mbuli, they went to the police station to submit a petition of no bail for the prosecutor.
“We are here to tell the prosecutor to not grant the man who killed Amanda bail. We are tired of women being killed,” she said
Mbuli conveyed that women are dying in the hands of men and the perpetrators are granted bail while women and children continue to live in fear.
“This man must stay behind bars. We do not want him in our community as Dimbaza residents, we say no bail for this man,” said Mbuli.
Babalwa Lobishe, a member of Never Give Up, an organisation in Dimbaza, said they decided to submit the petition before the court proceedings begin with the signatures of the community members.
“He must not be granted bail at all. We have lost another woman in the hands of a cruel man who was supposed to protect her and her children but instead, he took her life and left the children without a mother,” she said.
