The Walter Sisulu University Buffalo City campus has suspended academic activity for two weeks over an upsurge of Covid-19 infections.
According to the WSU Vice-Chancellor Robert Midgley, this is after several 26 students and one staff member tested positive.
“Students from different residences and a staff member were identified as being COVID-19 positive,” said Midgley.
In-addition Midgley announced that the university’s management has decided to suspend all academic and administrative contact activity between staff and students from the Buffalo City Campus community for two weeks.
“We will confine students to residences for self-isolation purposes and this will hopefully reduce chances of the virus to spiral out of control and relieve the pressure on our health care facilities,” he said.
Midgley said the university has put together management arrangements to put students under quarantine.
“The university’s capacity is limited and management has to reconsider its current risk management processes and improve our precautionary measure.
Our priority is to protect our students and staff,” he said.
