The police have warned residents to be vigilant after a family was allegedly robbed by three men, disguised as policemen in Newlands, just outside of Mdantsane last week Friday.
In a statement released by Spokesperson, Captain Nkosikho Mzuku, three armed men claiming to be policemen kicked down the door of a house in Newlands in the early hours of the morning.
“Please verify first, by asking for appointment certificates probably through the window before you can open for police. Alternatively, immediately report any suspicion to the local police first,” advised Mzuku.
He said that the suspects took off with the family’s cellphones, clothing and a plasma TV and it was estimated that the total value of what these men allegedly took with them was close to R800 000.
It is nearly a week later and the police are still investigating and none of the items has been recovered nor has there been any arrests made.
“The investigation is still ongoing, there have not been any suspects arrested yet,” said Mzuku.
The SAPS urges the public to be on the lookout and report any suspicious behaviour to their local police station.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to send tip-offs on MySAPSApp or to contact SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111. Vulindlela police station can also be contacted on 043 765 6909. All information received will be treated with confidence and callers may remain anonymous,” said Mzuku.
