Buffalo City Metro Municipality has spent around R11 Million in grants-in-aid initiatives.
This was made known after the Buffalo City Metro Executive Mayor Xola Pakati and Deputy Mayor Helen Neale May handed over an amount of R2.5 Million to 198 Non-governmental and Non-Profit Organisations in the metro.
According to Pakati, transforming society is very pivotal.
“This is a very important programme and we trust that decisive social transformation will help develop the city further,” said Pakati.
One of the beneficiaries Nomveliso Mvudla said she is very excited as she will upgrade her shelter and assist more children who are victims of abuse.
“It’s difficult when a child comes to you for help and you can’t assist cause do not have enough means to help, now I will be able to add more clothes, school uniforms and even upgrade the shelter so that children are more comfortable,” she said.
Neale-May urged the beneficiaries to use the money handed over responsibly.
“For us to continue with such programmes, we urge the beneficiaries to use the money for what it is meant to be used for so that in the future more funds are released,” she said.
