Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality and it’s stakeholders visited Scenery Park today. Spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya said the purpose of the visit was to educate the community and tavern owners about the rules and responsibilities of alcohol consumption.

“The aim of the outreach is to:

  • Inform and educate parents, tavern owners and the community at large on roles, rules and responsibility.
  • Enforcement of by-laws on illegal tavern owners.
  • Reduce supply and consumption of alcohol and drugs in the long-term” he said.

“Our law enforcement agencies including fire, disaster management, business, planning, health and environmental services will be in attendance, ” he said.

This takes place after 21 young people were found dead at eNyobeni tavern last Sunday. The cause of the death is still unknown.

Preparations for a mass funeral are underway and it will take place on Wednesday in Scenery Park.
