Earning extra cash to make ends meet, four young men established a business called Majitarro Traditional Pizza.
The four businessmen, Andisa Myokwana, Sisonke Petela, Ndibulele Funda and Lwando Funda started the business on February 29, 2020, before the country was hit by the pandemic.
According to one of the founders Myokwana, the idea of making pizza came about when the gentlemen were bouncing business ideas around.
“The idea came about when we were thinking of ways of making extra cash. We discovered that one of the founders had a pizza oven, we dared to try not having ever made pizza before and we decided to challenge ourselves,” he said.
Talking about the challenges Funda said because of the pandemic, plans to expand the business are on pause as they do not have funders.
“The pandemic has affected us in a way that we’ve had to halt our expansion plans which were already in the pipeline,” said Funda.
In-addition Petela said since they do not have funders, they managed to raise money from their own pockets.
“We currently do not have sponsors and we don’t pay our salaries from the business ever since it started operating because we keep reinvesting in the business to maintain top standards,” he said.
When BCM News asked about the business’s future plans Petela said they want to purchase a mobile pizza oven.
“We are also looking into investing in permanent premises where we are going to operate,” he said
